We're going to do a couple of things in class today, then head over to Trinity to look at this show.
I'm giving you an assignment that relates to it. It's simple, and due at the start of class next Tuesday.
After viewing the exhibition (and possibly even attending the talk tonight at 5:30) please select one image that you find especially engaging. In one carefully written, proof-read page, please do the following:
1. (One paragraph) Please describe the photograph in a way that someone who has never seen it can understand what it is. Who is in it? How are they posed? What are they doing? What are the physical qualities of the print (size? color? etc). What details (date, location, etc) can you provide to explain the picture?
2. (One paragraph) Please describe what specific elements in this picture you find engaging. Is it the light? The subject? The time period? The staging? The expression? The moment? Thoughtfully investigate and discuss why this particular image resonates with you.
In addition to the one page paper, please include another page that contains a visual reference of your image. You can use a cell phone, DSLR, whatever. Just make a reasonably good copy of the photograph and include the on the print that you'll make on a separate page. You should staple this to your written page.
Other requirements: Please make your text single spaced, 11 point, Palatino.
