A picture is worth about sixteen words; please have the rough draft of your rephoto project on the critique wall at 2:00 on Tuesday. That means you'll have to come in on your own time to get it done.
There won't be time allocated to printing in class. So, get it done well before. (Waiting until just before class is a very bad idea. Printing always takes longer than you expect, even when you know what needs to be done.)
See you soon,
Byron

Here's that video I showed in class today. Too bad the software isn't ready for us yet. We could use it on our current project!

Here is the handout for our next project. It contains some upcoming deadlines: Download RephotoProject
Please download, print, and read it after class today. After some administrative stuff at the start of class today, we'll spend some time in the field with a rephotography orientation. Next Tuesday, we are going to take a trip to the library to tour Special Collections to get an orientation.
Their web site, useful for research, is: http://cricket.csuchico.edu/spcfotos2/photos6.html

HELP? With writing?
Yes, there is a free service on campus to help you with your writing. It may be just the thing you need for the writing assignment on Black & White in Black & White.
Please go here for more details.

We're going to do a couple of things in class today, then head over to Trinity to look at this show.
I'm giving you an assignment that relates to it. It's simple, and due at the start of class next Tuesday.
After viewing the exhibition (and possibly even attending the talk tonight at 5:30) please select one image that you find especially engaging. In one carefully written, proof-read page, please do the following:
1. (One paragraph) Please describe the photograph in a way that someone who has never seen it can understand what it is. Who is in it? How are they posed? What are they doing? What are the physical qualities of the print (size? color? etc). What details (date, location, etc) can you provide to explain the picture?
2. (One paragraph) Please describe what specific elements in this picture you find engaging. Is it the light? The subject? The time period? The staging? The expression? The moment? Thoughtfully investigate and discuss why this particular image resonates with you.
In addition to the one page paper, please include another page that contains a visual reference of your image. You can use a cell phone, DSLR, whatever. Just make a reasonably good copy of the photograph and include the on the print that you'll make on a separate page. You should staple this to your written page.
Other requirements: Please make your text single spaced, 11 point, Palatino.

It's called SEE, based on the fact that it's easy to take photographs, but difficult to learn how to actually see. Follow this link to buy your copy. It's one of the longest we've made, so it costs a little more than past versions; $44.60, plus shipping. I'm paying $6.40 to ship, but it won't arrive until the 28th. Pay more, get it earlier.
There's also a FREE ipad version available but you have to get the free iPad app.
I haven't graded exams or gone through your final files yet. That will have to wait until tomorrow. I plan to submit grades by Monday.
Thanks for a good semester,
Byron

I just hung the sign (with ethernet cable). Click for detail.
Whatever we might have lacked in terms of polished design, we made up for with our spirit of innovation. Here are some more pictures. I'll make a couple more on Tuesday when the last chaise-lounge is complete and we have everyone on hand. This is just a start.
